Germany at Christmas
One of the best trips I ever took was to Germany at Christmastime (December 1989). I went with my husband Kevin (before kids....). It is a special time there...each small town we hit had their own "Christkind markt" (Christmas market). We visited Rothenburg (a walled city..known for their chocolates...), Nurenburg (known for the Glockspiel and Lebkuchen (gingerbread), Munich, Garmish-Partenkichen, Vienna (ok, not technically Germany...Austria...but still quite wonderful). We also stayed in this amazing hotel located right below Neuschwannstein castle! Wood-carvings from Oberammergau (site of the upcoming 2010 Passion Play). Train through the Black Forest! New Year's Eve at the Berlin wall (THE place to be that year!). What a trip!
